I'm in favor of adding anything that can reasonably be displayed on a pop-up menu. The key to all this is a) things being optional and b) placement being controllable. Even if it meant that each item displayed on a tab that idea is that a user could select which tabs they are interested in and in which order.

That would stop me from being late for work. 😉
